Top lawyer found guilty of misconduct
The Bar Association has found the former solicitor-general, senior counsel Daniel Fung, guilty of professional misconduct. A disciplinary hearing ruled that he had concealed information that was unfavourable to his client during a court case. It imposed a fine of HK$300,000.
The case was heard before the future chief justice, Mr Justice Ma, five years ago. Mr Fung was dealing with an appeal in a rental dispute that was lodged by a subsidiary of New World Properties, in the Appeal Court.
The judge made a complaint to the Bar Association, after he discovered that Mr Fung had failed to disclose ordinances that were unfavourable to his client, and for not being able to give a reasonable explanation.
